Risk & Safety

The Fort Donelson Memorial Trail Inc. is not responsible for the safety of you or your group. It is a mandatory requirement that an individual hiker or the front and rear hikers of your group wear Hi-Vis, Day Glow Green or Orange Safety vests (reflective strips-preferred) while hiking the trails. If you are with a Scout group all BSA Health and Safety Policies and Procedures must be followed while hiking at the Fort Donelson National Military Park, in and around the city of Dover and any of the Reconnoitering Trails. Possible hazards include but are not limited to vehicle traffic, wildlife including poisonous snakes, poisonous plants, inclement weather, insects (such as bees, wasps, ticks, chiggers) and steep uneven terrain. We recommend that you and or your group review Chapter 8 of the Boy Scout Handbook regarding Hiking Safety. For groups with youth 17 years and younger we require a minimum of two adults of qualified supervision 21 years or older to hike with them.
